Service

Personal tax

Self assessment prepared properly, reliefs claimed in full, and no letters from HMRC you were not expecting.

What this covers

Self assessment looks simple until your affairs are not. Rental income, dividends, share options, a capital gain, income from abroad, a high income child benefit charge or pension annual allowance issue each add a layer, and the penalties for getting them wrong fall on you rather than on whoever typed the figures in.

We prepare the return, check it against what we would expect to see, and tell you what you owe and when, well before the deadline. Where a relief has been missed in an earlier year, there is often still time to claim it.

What you get

  • Self assessment prepared, reviewed and filed
  • Rental accounts for landlords, including finance cost restriction
  • Capital gains calculations and 60-day property reporting
  • Dividend, interest and investment income handled correctly
  • Share options and employment-related securities
  • Foreign income, double tax relief and remittance questions
  • Pension annual allowance and tapering checks
  • Making Tax Digital for income tax, set up before it applies to you

Landlords

Property is where most personal tax goes wrong. The restriction on finance costs, what counts as a repair rather than an improvement, the 60-day reporting deadline on a residential disposal, and whether holding through a company actually helps are all questions worth answering before you act rather than afterwards. We deal with portfolios from one flat upwards.

Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital for income tax brings quarterly reporting to self-employed people and landlords above a turnover threshold, phased in from April 2026 onwards. If it will apply to you, the work is in getting records digital before it starts, not scrambling afterwards. We will tell you whether and when you are caught, and set you up in good time.

Common questions

Personal tax

When is my tax return due?

For a return filed online, 31 January after the end of the tax year, which is also when the balancing payment is due. We aim to have returns finished well before then so you know the figure in advance.

I have sold a property. What do I need to do?

A residential property disposal that produces a gain usually has to be reported and the tax paid within 60 days of completion, separately from your tax return. Tell us as soon as a sale is agreed, not after completion.

I have not filed for a few years. Can you help?

Yes. Bringing things up to date voluntarily is almost always better than waiting for HMRC. We will tell you what the likely penalty position is before we start.

Do you deal with people living abroad?

Yes. Non-residence, the statutory residence test and UK income for people overseas are regular work for us.
