Wealth planning

Tax planning for individuals and families

Income, investments, property and business interests looked at as one picture, and planned across years rather than months.

Why this is different work

Once there is real wealth involved, the questions stop being about a single tax return. Income arrives from several directions, assets sit in different wrappers and ownership structures, and decisions taken now determine what the next generation receives. The cost of handling that reactively, one deadline at a time, is high and largely invisible.

We act for individuals and families whose affairs span more than one of those areas. The work is advisory first and compliance second, and it runs on an annual cycle: a planning review before the tax year closes, then implementation and reporting.

Income & capital gains

Timing of disposals, use of allowances and reliefs, the order in which assets are sold, and how investments are held.

Inheritance tax

Lifetime gifting, the seven-year position, trusts, business and agricultural relief, and making sure the plan matches your will.

Family investment companies

Whether one suits your circumstances, how the share classes should work, and the ongoing compliance once it exists.

Trusts

Establishing them with your solicitor, and the reporting, ten-year charges and exit charges that follow.

Residence & domicile

The statutory residence test, arrival and departure planning, and UK tax on overseas income and gains.

Property portfolios

Personal versus corporate ownership, incorporation, SDLT, and the tax cost of restructuring what you already hold.

Business owners

Extracting value, Business Asset Disposal Relief, and the interaction between a company sale and your estate.

Succession

Passing a business or a portfolio on, and the conversations with the next generation that need to happen first.

How we work

An annual cycle, not a January scramble

A planning review before the tax year end, while there is still time to act. Implementation through the year as transactions come up. Then compliance, prepared from work already done rather than reconstructed afterwards.

We coordinate with your solicitor, IFA and wealth manager rather than working around them. Most of the value in this work sits at the joins between tax, investment and legal advice, and nobody sees those joins if the advisers never speak.

Discretion is assumed. We will not use your name, your sector or your circumstances as an example to anyone.

What a first meeting covers

  • What you own, how it is held and where the income comes from
  • What you want to happen to it, and when
  • Where the current structure is working against you
  • What can be done before the tax year ends
  • What needs other advisers involved
  • A written fixed quote for the work

Common questions

Wealth planning

Is there a minimum level of wealth?

No formal threshold. This service suits people whose affairs span several of the areas above. If a single tax return would cover you, our personal tax service is the better fit and will cost less.

When should inheritance tax planning start?

Earlier than most people assume. Gifting generally needs you to survive seven years for the full benefit, and several reliefs depend on conditions being met over time, so starting sooner keeps more options open.

Do you give investment advice?

No. We are not regulated to advise on investments and we will tell you so plainly. We work alongside your IFA or wealth manager on the tax consequences of what they recommend.

Do you work with my solicitor?

Yes, and we prefer to. Wills, trust deeds and shareholder agreements have to match the tax plan, and that only happens if both advisers are in the conversation.

How is this charged?

An annual fixed fee covering the planning review and compliance, with larger projects quoted separately. You will know the cost before anything starts.
